| Fort Lauderdale man faces uphill battle with a mountain of debt
Big student loans and a heap of credit-card debt, but a low-paying job. It's a mismatch so many people face when they're trying to live on starting salaries. For Jamell Vanterpool, the mismatch is hurting him and limiting his future prospects. "I can't keep up with the bills," he wrote, seeking a South Florida Sun-Sentinel Money Makeover. There are two big questions he faces: Can he live on his salary? The answer to that one is no. And what can he do about it? That answer depends on what Vanterpool does next. .
Toyota Sticking To Demure Script. Ford Who?
Toyota Motor Sales U.S. chief Jim Lentz wouldn't comment about whether he thought Toyota would surpass Ford Motor Co. in market sharethis year, and said it really doesn't matter. "We don't adjust our plans based on their performance," Lentz said. "I'm not going to, as the head of Toyota, make bad business decisions just to chase someone else." He added that Toyota doesn't advertise its ranking for specific products, and doesn't believe it's something that customers care about. That's not what Ford thinks. "People don't care too much about whether their car is the top brand, but in pickups, that's not the case…truck buyers like to know they are part of a winner," says Ford Division marketing chief Barry Engle. Ford is the top pickup truck brand in the U.S., but that is in large part because General Motors splits up its full-size pickup trucks sales between the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

Everton apply to enter Intertoto Cup
The Toffees are currently fourth in the Premier League, which would be good enough to earn them qualification for the preliminary rounds of next season's Champions League. Three further teams qualify for the UEFA Cup, with the next highest-ranked side eligible to enter the pre-season Intertoto Cup, which offers an alternative route into the UEFA Cup. Aston Villa, Blackburn and Manchester City have also applied for entry to the competition. Everton are still in this season's UEFA Cup, and will face Italian side Fiorentina in the last 16. Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told: 'Clearly European qualification through our league position or via the UEFA Cup is our main priority. 'However because of the deadline for Intertoto Cup applications, it would be remiss of us not to put our name forward.' Your views on this story? Email Newsdesk@soccernet.com .

Clinton Basks in Buffett Glow
Obama speaks frequently of the financial guru, invoking his name when he discusses the economy. "Warren Buffett is a dear friend and somebody I call frequently. He's proving to be an invaluable sounding board," Mr. Obama said recently. "Obama appreciates the support and advice Buffett has given him over the course of this campaign and looks forward to his continued assistance as we move forward," campaign spokesman Bill Burton said yesterday. Mr. Buffett said he doesn't have an event planned with Mr. Obama at this time. At yesterday's Clinton fund-raiser, the New York senator asked Mr. Buffett questions from the audience on topics including taxes, the depreciation of the U.S. dollar and whether new investment products such as derivatives and structured investment vehicles are safe investments.
