Archivist: I Stole Papers to Pay Bills

A state archivist was charged Monday with stealing hundreds of artifacts _ documents representing "the heritage of all Americans," according to the history buff who found some of them on eBay _ to pay his household bills.

Daniel Lorello, 54, is accused of taking the rare items from the New York State Library, including Davy Crockett Almanacs, Currier and Ives lithographs and the 1865 railroad timetable for Abraham Lincoln's funeral train. Authorities believe he hawked them for tens of thousands of dollars, using much of that to pay off his daughter's credit card debt.

"This crime is especially repugnant, because it's dealing with historic documents," state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said. "It's literally stealing the legacy of the state of New York page by page."

Lorello, an archives and records management specialist in the New York Department of Education, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and scheme to defraud and was released on his recognizance.

City given highest 'AAA' rating on debt issuance

Naperville has great credit.

Standard & Poor's Rating Services has awarded the city its highest rating of "AAA" on new debt issuance and also reaffirmed the "AAA" rating on Naperville's existing general obligation debt, the city said Monday in a release. These ratings were awarded in conjunction with a coming debt issuance.

"A 'AAA' rating is very hard to receive, and it's even harder to keep current each year," Mayor George Pradel said in the release.

This year, however, marked the first time the city was rated under S&P's "Financial Management Assessment," a report card on the city's financial personnel and processes that include City Council oversight. Under this assessment, the city received a rating of "strong," defined by the S&P as being indicative of practices that "are strong, well embedded, and likely sustainable."

Proceeds from the general obligation bond are earmarked to finance improvements to the city's electric system and other capital projects.

Pregnancy - Other Types Of Pain Relief

Tens devices are about the size of a small radio and are connected to electrodes placed on the skin, usually on your lower back. Electrical impulses result in a tingling sensation, which some women find annoying. The side effects of tens are usually no more than some skin irritation where the pads are stuck to the back. The electrical impulses do not affect the baby. Most studies of tens in labor have found it to be only mildly effective in reducing labor pain.

Rudd in talks with RBA chiefs

Inflation is tipped to be the main topic of discussion when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan meet Reserve Bank officials today.

Mr Rudd and his Government have put tackling inflation as one of the key priorities of the new year.

Federal efforts to cut spending are likely to be one of the main topics of today's talks.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is slashing its budget by $57 million, with a number of overseas diplomats to be recalled and programs to promote Australian culture overseas being cut to fund the savings.

The Federal Government says it does not believe the changes will affect its foreign policy priorities.

Mr Rudd says the talks will look at the challenges posed by higher inflation and will help shape the Federal Government's future economic policy.

12:17 p.m.: Oakland police crime-scene technician Bruce Christensen testified this morning that he processed Nina Reiser's 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan Sept. 9, 2006, the day when resident Chris Bunn found it on Fernwood Drive off Highway 13. Bunn has testified that the vehicle had been there for three or four days.

Prosecutor Paul Hora flashed pictures of the minivan and its contents on a screen as Christensen narrated. Among the things found in the Odyssey was a purse, a compact mirror, a comb, a cell phone charger and a flip-style cell phone in the open position and with its battery detached, Christensen testified. He said search dogs were directed to some of those items in hopes that they could detect her scent and eventually find her.
